Town of Wellesley Memorial Grove Dedication

You are cordially invited to join the town of Wellesley for the dedication of its World War I Memorial Grove on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 3:30 PM as part of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend (May 19th & May 20th). Wellesley College President Paula Johnson will be part of the Dedication Ceremony. In 1919 the town of Wellesley celebrated the end of World War I and the return of 326 Wellesley citizens who participated. Unfortunately 6 never returned. On May 24, 1919, 1500 Wellesley College students and faculty marched en masse from its campus to Hunnewell Field where appropriate ceremonies welcomed back those who served. Wellesley College President Ellen Pendleton read a special poem for the occasion written by Katharine Lee Bates entitled “Welcome”. On May 19, 2018, President Johnson will read the poem once again. To reach Memorial Grove take Washington Street east to State Street (Whole Foods) and take a right. Memorial Grove is located near the parking lot at the curve on State St. (before the football field). Best parking is further along on State Street at the Wellesley High School parking lot. Also, consider participating in the events of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend: the Parade, Fireworks, and more. You will find the schedule at
