Calling all Frederick Law Olmstead fans! Did you know that Olmstead, America's first and foremost landscape architect, designed the grounds for our own Wellesley College? Let's celebrate Olmstead's achievements, beginning with an 11:00 am guided tour of his home and design office at 99 Warren St. in Brookline. (No guarantees, but we may get to see some of the actual Wellesley plans!). Then we'll head over for a 1:00 picnic lunch at Olmstead Park (if you don't feel like packing a lunch there are many eateries in the area where you can grab some takeout to bring to the park). After lunch, we'll walk through the park, enjoying one of the jewels of the Emerald Necklace. RSVP to Jane Materazzo (email@example.com) to indicate whether you'd like to come to the guided tour, picnic lunch and/or walk in the park.
Feel free to join us for any or all of the festivities. We'll have two meetup spots -- 10:45 at Olmstead's house at 99 Warren St., Brookline and 1:00 at the Willow Pond Rd. parking lot for Olmstead Park. (If you put Olmstead Park into your Google Maps or Waze app, you'll get directions to the parking lot on Willow Pond Rd. in Jamaica Plain.) Both venues are also easily accessible by public transportation (Brookline Hills Subway Station and MBTA 60 bus stop for the Olmstead Historic site; S. Huntington Ave. @ Bynner St. bus for the park). Let's celebrate this talented architect and local treasure!
